How much does it cost?

Painting prices

Every painting project is unique. That's why we'll typically send our estimator to the job to evaluate the work. With over a quarter century of experience, our estimator will be able to tell you exactly how much it will cost to complete your project. He will also tell you how long it will take to complete the work. However, we thought it would be a good idea to create this page to inform you of some of the factors that our estimator takes into account when establishing a price for your painting project.

Ask questions

It's not every day that a painting expert comes to your home or business at no charge to meet with you. In order to make the most of our painting expert's visit, we suggest that you be well prepared. Take a few minutes to write down all your questions. As painting professionals, we will be able to make recommendations regarding the choice of products. We will also be able to give you color ideas to enhance your property. Also, if you have a future project that you would like to do, this is the perfect time to get an expert opinion and get an accurate picture of the work to be done.

Square footage area

Illustration in 3 dimensions.
If you were asked to name one thing that impacts the price of the job, chances are the first thing that will come to mind is the square footage that needs to be painted. To calculate the number of square feet in a room, you calculate the height of the wall and multiply that number by the width of the wall. This is repeated for each wall. Next, the ceiling area is calculated by multiplying the depth of the room by its width. Here is an example for a rectangular room that is 9 feet high, 14 feet deep and 20 feet wide.

Wall 1: 9 feet x 14 feet =126
square feet
Wall 2: 9 feet x 20 feet =180
square feet
Wall 3: 9 feet x 14 feet =126 square feet
Wall 4: 9 feet x 20 feet =180
square feet
Ceiling: 14 feet x 20 feet =280
square feet

By adding the surface of the 4 walls and the ceiling, we obtain a total of 892 square feet. Knowing the surface area to be painted not only allows you to evaluate the cost and duration of the work, but it also allows you to know how many gallons of paint to buy.

Height

Will your painting job require working at heights? If so, our estimator will have to assess whether special equipment is needed to complete the work safely. On some occasions, a simple scaffold will be sufficient. In other cases, a bucket may be necessary. At Peintre Sherbrooke, we are as concerned about a job well done as we are about the health and safety of our workers.

Number of coats

How many coats are needed to get the best result? This is not an easy question to answer. If the surface to be painted is gypsum that has never been painted, a base coat and a minimum of 2 coats of paint must be applied. If the gypsum has already been painted, a primer is not required. Depending on the existing color and the color of the paint to be applied, 3 coats may be required. This is often the case when a light paint is applied over a dark paint.

How many colors

Will more than one color be applied to the same wall? If so, be aware that this will have an impact on the bill because it requires more preparation.

Unfurnished or furnished room?

Are the rooms to be painted empty or do they contain furniture? Painting an empty room will go much faster than if there is furniture and other objects in the room. For this reason, it is desirable that the work be done when there is no furniture in the room. When possible, it may be advantageous to delay your move-in date by a few days to give us a chance to do the work. But we know that this is not always possible. Don't worry. Our professional painters are meticulous and will take the time to cover your belongings properly so that they are not damaged by the paint.

Paint cut-out

You know as well as we do that cutting a room requires a lot of attention to detail and therefore time. The more windows, electrical outlets, light fixtures, doors and mouldings there are in the room, the longer this step will take. If the painting work you wish to do is in a new building or in a building under renovation, take the time to plan the painting work with us so that we can be on your site at the right time.
