How to reduce paint odors

Finally the work is finished. Our team has packed up. We've cleaned up nicely and put things back in place. Aside from your shiny walls, you wouldn't know that just a few hours ago your basement was a real mess.
We use products that contain very little V.O.C. The paint we use meets strict standards such as LEED v4. Despite this, it is possible that a member of the family is more sensitive to the smell of the paint. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to share a few tips on how to reduce the smell of a freshly painted house that may bother some people.

Open the windows

Open window allowing fresh air into a Rock Forest residence.
The first thing to do is to open the windows in the room that has just been painted to promote good air circulation. If possible, also open other windows in the house to create a draught. This will also allow the paint to dry more quickly.

Add fans

Black Ventillator on stand, in Sherbrooke.
Once the window is open, you can add a device that will direct the air towards it. A simple standing fan is sufficient to evacuate stale air from the room. You can also use the functions available on your air conditioner or air exchanger to help evacuate foul odors.

Coffee grounds

Coffee beans, in Fleurimont.
Using coffee grounds is a great way to get rid of paint scents. Once you have made your filter coffee, collect the residue and place it on a large plate. The goal is to have as much coffee as possible in contact with the air. A baking sheet will work just fine.

The lemon

Citron, in Sherbrooke.
Squeeze a lemon and add the juice to boiling water. You'll quickly notice that the smell of the paint will be replaced by the citrus. If you want even faster results, grate or grind the lemon peel and place the residue in various places in the room. You can also grate orange peels if you prefer.

Sodium bicarbonate

Bicarbonate of soda, in Sherbrooke.
Baking soda is an inexpensive product that is available in most homes. Just as it neutralizes odors in your fridge, it will also stop the fumes from the paint. It is better to have several small bowls in the room rather than just one. Increase the quantity according to the size of the room.

Incense

Burning incense stick, in Sherbrooke.
Incense is an excellent way to eradicate paint odors. It is important to choose a variety that you like so as not to add to the unpleasantness already caused by the paint. If you are not familiar with this product, many people find that incense with a pine or eucalyptus scent works very well.

Onion

Onions in Sherbrooke.
The last approach we propose will certainly not please everyone. But you should know that it is very effective and very accessible. All you have to do is slice up a few onions and add them to two liters of boiling water. This formula allows you to obtain results very quickly. However, if you don't like the smell of onions, avoid using this method.
